Michael has been doing very well with his treatment. He is looking and feeling much better and is becoming a happy pooch. He is almost ready for adoption. We can send his shampoo and meds home with his new family. This will surely be Michael's year!

Michael is a Very Special Dog

Angel Ridge Animal Rescue

Michael is a very special dog with a lot of caring human friends. In this spot, we will try and post an update each week. This will keep everyone updated and will give you an idea of what we do to help the healing of a dog that comes to us in such bad shape.
Michael came to us in the evening of January 9th. He came from a shellter in WV near the Maryland border. He was scheduled for euthanasia because of what appeared to be an extreme case of mange. He did not have a name - he was known as B-8. This dog had no hope and no identity. This is what the email sent out by a volunteer at the shelter had to say about him:

"Will be EUTHED TOMORROW if I can't find another option for him!!! Please help!!!

This boy was brought in as a stray by Animal Control. He is missing 50% of his hair and has thick, crusty skin over most of his body. He has hot spots on his front legs and his ears are so thick and crusted that they crack and bleed when he shakes his head.

The shelter has no funds for vet care so we applied Revolution to kill any fleas and begin treatment in case he has Sarcoptic Mange. He was very itchy but is now doing much better.

To make things worse, when they shut him outside to clean the inside of his kennel, he fought frantically to get back inside and cut up his nose on the metal guillotine door.

He is such a sad boy but such a sweetheart. He hangs his head and wags his tail when you give him attention and he doesn't mind being handled at all. He looks like a lab mix but is much smaller than a lab. Approx. 30-40 lbs and he is intact.

All he does is sleep, curled up on his blanket all day. We really want this guy to get a chance to know what a good life is.

If you can help, please contact me ASAP. I only have 24 hours to get a rescue committment for this sweet boy."

Angel Ridge Animal Rescue

He was named after Archangel Michael, an angel that helps us especially in times of fear. Mike settled in well in the Shannon home and quickly learned about the treat lineup of all the dogs. He patiently waits until he is offered a treat. Monday morning, we visited the vet. Mike had several tests done. He is about eight years old. He is not heartworm positive, but he has lymes disease. He did not test positive for mange, but he has a staff infection and yeast in his skin. He has bad teeth and one that is abscessed. Mike is on two meds and gets medicated baths a few times per week. He is one happy guy and when he has healed, will make someone a wonderful new dog. More next week.....
